Health Care Reform Feature of 2013 Sapphire Awards and Symposium

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- In an effort to provide vital tools and information to individuals and organizations that interact and communicate with people about health, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Foundation (BCBSF Foundation) will host a series of conversations on health care reform during its 2013 Sapphire Awards and Symposium. The event is scheduled Feb. 21-22, 2013, at The Peabody Hotel in Orlando, Fla. 

Dr. John R. Lumpkin of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will deliver a keynote address Feb. 21 that considers the significant impact of the new health care reform legislation as well as its top priorities and challenges.

Lumpkin, who has practiced emergency medicine and served as director of the Illiniois Department of Public Health, will be one of several nationally recognized speakers at this year’s event.

Other noted presenters include: Travis Coker, director, special projects and governmental affiars, Florida Association of Community Health Centers; Justin Senior, deputy secretary for Medicaid, Florida Agency for Health Care Administration; Kim Streit, vice president, Health Care Research and Information, Florida Hospital Association; Nicole Lamorueux Busby, executive director, National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics; and Catherine Hess, managing director for coverage and access, National Academy for State Health Policy.

The Sapphire Awards recognizes programs, organizations and individuals from around the state that have demonstrated excellence and innovation in community health. Since its inception, 45 health-focused nonprofits and individuals have been honored. 2013 Sapphire Awards finalists Nancy Sisson Hardt, M.D. (Gainesville),  St. Vincent’s HealthCare Mobile Health Outreach Ministry (Jacksonville), Community Smiles (Miami-Dade) and Womankind (Key West) will receive special recognition Feb. 22.
